What is sworn translation?

Sworn translation is usually described as an officially accepted translation of a legal document or any other document that should be required in a legal situation. Sworn translation has recently grown in importance due to reasons of international trade, long-periods of tourism (including new Brexit requirements), and migration.

When do you need a sworn translation?

Here is a list of exactly which types of documents you will need translations of depending on your reasons and requirements for travelling:

  • Documents for immigration purposes

There is usually a long list of documents required for immigration purposes, so check with your appropriate Consulate what exactly you will need translating. Examples of documents that are typically asked for are: identity cards, birth certificates, criminal records, marriage certificates, etc.

  • Documents for employment

This could include qualifications, employment records and references from previous jobs.

  • Documents for study

Documents such as academic records and certificates, CEFR language level or proof of financial resources could be required from a receiving educational institution.

  • Administrative documents

Examples include: drivers licence, passport, medical documents, etc.

  • Corporate and financial documents

This would be more appropriate for businesses involved with international trading, but documents can include: balance sheets, business profiles, insurance documents, and more.

  • Court documents

Valid for individuals with legal situations: sentences, appeals, court proceedings, etc.

Steps of a sworn translation

Once you have all of your documents gathered together that will need a sworn translation, you’ll want to know the steps of how to get the process done. Here at CBLingua, we have a straight-forward process, and most steps can even be completed online if you are unable to visit one of our offices.

Firstly, you should send us the document(s) that you would like to have translated. You can do this by email: info@cblingua.com , or you can also send them to us via our website. Once we have received your document(s), we will provide you with a quotation in which we will indicate both the price and the deadline of the translation(s). The price of your sworn translation can vary depending on the type of document, the language combination, etc.

It is then up to you as the client if you are happy or not with your quotation. If you accept our quotation, we will need the payment to be made before we can begin translating. Payment can be done by cash or credit card in our offices in El Puerto de Santa Maria and Seville. Alternatively, if this is not possible for you, you can pay via bank transfer or by bizum (which is exclusively available to access through our website). Proof of payment will be needed to be sent to us using the same email as previously mentioned. After the payment has been smoothly transacted to us, you can sit back and relax, while we complete the sworn translation for you.

We have different methods of delivery depending on your preferences. We offer the possibility of delivering the completed translation online with a digital signature (only available for English and German documents). This option to have sworn translations delivered online with a digital signature is equally as valid legally as any other option. The language interpretation office in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has given permission for this method of submitting sworn translations due to the ongoing global situation with Coronavirus.
