I have been asked to talk about my experience working under the current state of emergency due to the Covid-19 outbreak. So, what has working under the current state of emergency been like?
This is actually only day 5 of my lockdown and the 5th day of work under the state of emergency in Spain. I was actually lucky enough to miss the first weekend of the lockdown as I was on vacation abroad in a country less affected than Spain.
Quarantine at CBLingua
The first day, as you can imagine, was pretty hectic. We were all setting up a system in order to communicate with each other with the least amount of difficulty and gathering much need equipment at our offices, as well as preparing our offices for the quarantine period. In the afternoon I took my equipment (computer, files, etc.) home and started working from home.
The first day was rough, there were a lot of projects from the previous week that needed to be finished, but I managed. CBLingua also set up an office that took care of coordinating the shipping out of sworn translations and we all diverted our phones so that we could continue to answer customer calls at home.
Apart from that, the rest of the week has been pretty normal. Most of CBLingua’s staff are spread out among the different CBLingua offices (Malaga, Seville, El Puerto de Santa Maria), so working from home wasn’t a big change. We have had to coordinate more to make sure that everything goes out in time, but most of our services remain completely unaffected.
We are still working hard and we are trying to make everything as easy as possible for our clients to make sure that they don’t notice the difference.

It may be a bit difficult to accept that we can’t leave the house (other than for certain necessary activities), but we are doing this to keep everyone safe and make sure we beat this thing once and for all, so that everything can go back to normal. We have been getting stuck into our work and I must say, that, at least in my case, it definitely helps.
One tip I would give about how to best work from home, is to have plenty of natural light. I imagine that would always be recommended in most cases, but I can definitely tell you that in this case it is very important.
